What Is Warranty Registration?

Warranty registration is the step of recording new equipment with its manufacturer after installation, within a stated window. Manufacturers commonly offer a longer parts warranty to registered owners than the base coverage that applies by default, with terms set by the manufacturer.

Also called: register warranty · equipment warranty · manufacturer warranty

Why it matters to you

The window is short relative to the life of the equipment and is easy to miss in the weeks after an installation. Missing it does not void coverage, but it can mean settling for the shorter default term on equipment you expect to keep for many years.

What to do about it

Confirm who is registering the equipment — you or the installer — and get written confirmation once it is done. Keep the model and serial numbers, the installation date and the registration confirmation together; most warranties also require documented maintenance and licensed installation to stay valid.
