What Is Equipment Elevation (Flood Zone)?
Equipment elevation is mounting mechanical equipment above the anticipated flood level, on a stand or platform, rather than at grade. In flood-prone construction it applies to outdoor condensing units, air handlers and ductwork, and is governed by local floodplain requirements rather than by preference.
Also called: elevated equipment · equipment platform · flood elevation
Why it matters to you
Much of the Crystal Coast sits in mapped flood zones, where the required height is tied to the Base Flood Elevation for the property rather than to a single regional figure. Elevation also lifts equipment clear of routine storm-surge splash and wind-driven debris, which matters even outside a flood event.
What to do about it
Elevation requirements are determined by your property's flood zone and the local floodplain administrator, so confirm them with the permitting authority before a replacement is designed — not after the equipment is on site.
