Coastal & Corrosion
What Is a Marine-Grade Coil?
A marine-grade coil is an outdoor coil built or treated for corrosive environments — through protective coatings, all-aluminium construction that avoids dissimilar-metal contact, or both. Manufacturers market these under various seacoast or coastal designations, and the specification differs between them.
Also called: marine grade coil · coastal coil · seacoast coil
Why it matters to you
This is the specification that matters most on a coastal replacement, and it is often the one least discussed on a quote. Since the outdoor coil is where salt does its damage, upgrading it addresses the failure mode directly rather than generally.
What to do about it
Ask explicitly whether a quote includes a coastal or marine-grade coil option and what protection it actually provides — a coating, all-aluminium construction, or a cabinet treatment. These are different things, and 'coastal package' is not a standard term across manufacturers.
