What Is a Crossover Duct?
A crossover duct is the flexible duct connecting the two halves of a double-wide manufactured home's supply system, usually running underneath the floor between the sections. It carries conditioned air from the side with the furnace to the opposite side.
Also called: crossover · belly duct
Why it matters to you
Running under the home leaves it exposed to animals, moisture and physical damage, and a disconnected or crushed crossover is a classic cause of one half of a double-wide never getting comfortable. In a damp coastal crawl space it also draws humid air in if it is torn.
What to do about it
If one side of a double-wide is persistently too warm or too cool, have the crossover inspected — the fault is often there rather than in the equipment. Inspection means going under the home, so it is a service task.
